Another sitting Jamaica Labour Party Councillor has died.
Party officials confirmed on Sunday that Jermaine Hyatt, Councillor for the Denham Town division in Western Kingston, died Saturday night at Spanish Town Hospital, of what is suspected to have been a heart attack.
Mr. Hyatt's death brings to four, the number of sitting councillors to have died since the start of the year, three from the JLP and one from the People's National Party (PNP).
Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, who chairs the JLP's Communication Taskforce told Radio Jamaica News that Deputy Leader for Area Council 1 and Member of Parliament for West Kingston, Desmond McKenzie had expressed shock at the passing of Mr. Hyatt.
In a statement, Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie described Councillor Hyatt as a champion representative who gave priority to serving the people of his division with distinction.
Mr. McKenzie , added that it is a trying time for the JLP, in particular those who serve in the local government fraternity.
Only recently, businessman and sitting Councillor for the Olympic Gardens Divsion, Christopher Townsend, died from suspected natural causes.
