Another meeting today to avert strike by NWC workers

Another meeting will be held today (Wednesday) in an effort to resolve outstanding compensation related issues at the National Water Commission (NWC) and avert a strike by its employees.

The talks will involve managers of the NWC, unions representing the workers and the Ministry of Finance & The Public Service.

NWC workers are restive over the protracted delay by the ministry in completing a job evaluation, which has implications for their compensation.

The evaluation will result in adjustments in the pay scales of the workers and should have been implemented last November.

The employees are also asking for the alignment of all jobs with their corresponding pay bands along with a comprehensive listing of all jobs evaluated.

The workers say to date there has been no word on when the new pay scales will take effect.

The last meeting between the parties was held on Monday at the Ministry of Labour, after the workers, through their unions, issued a 72 hour strike notice.
