Two men killed by police in Manchester

Two men were fatally shot, allegedly during a confrontation with the police along Old Greenvale Road in Mandeville, Manchester Monday morning.

The police say they were responding to reports that men travelling in a silver Toyota Axio had pulled a firearm on someone in Mandeville.

Commanding Officer for Manchester Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis said the vehicle, matching the description, was seen around 6:40 a.m., on Old Greenvale Road area.

He said the driver of the car was signaled by the police to stop the vehicle but instead an occupant in the vehicle opened fire at the law officers.

"The police returned the fire, and thereafter, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds in that unit."

He said the vehicle was then searched and a rifle and a quantity of ammunition were found.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is investigating.
