The Antigua and Barbuda Parliament will meet on Tuesday to discuss abortion rights issues, with the government hinting that the session would allow for some altering of the law as it relates to terminating a pregnancy.
Abortion has been declared illegal in Antigua and Barbuda since 1895.
Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lionel Max Hurst, says there are challenges on the basis of the degree to which an abortion will be allowed.
He says while terminating a pregnancy is unlawful the procedure still occurs in the country.
The decision to discuss the matter comes in the wake of the decision by the US to outlaw abortions, reversing the landmark Roe versus Wade case.
