By Clinton McGregor

The Court of Appeal has reserved judgment in the case of Dantay Brooks, the son of dancehall entertainer Mavado, who is serving a life sentence for murder.

Judgment was reserved last Wednesday.

This was disclosed by attorney Oswest Senior-Smith who represented Brooks' co-accused Andre Hinds.

Mr. Senior-Smith had asked the Appeal Court to quash the convictions and sentences of both men.

Attorney Hugh Wildman represented Brooks.

In 2021, the 18-year-old Brooks was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2018 killing of Lorenzo Thomas in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew.

Brooks was ordered to serve 22 years before becoming eligible for parole.

His co-accused, Andre Hinds, was also sentenced to life imprisonment.

He was ordered to serve 17 years before becoming eligible to parole.

Brooks and Hinds were also sentenced to 15 years behind bars for arson.

Prosecutors had reported that on June 5, 2018, men carrying guns and machetes, invaded Mr. Thomas's home in Cassava Piece.

Mr. Thomas was shot, beheaded and his body set ablaze.

Prosecutors led evidence that the teenager and Hines were part of the group which carried out the deadly attack.
