Approval given for procurement of CT scan machine for KPH

The Government will be spending US$2 million to purchase a computerised tomography (CT) machine for Kingston Public Hospital.

The machine is expected to be delivered in another two months.

Patients and their relatives have complained about the inconvenience of having to use diagnostic services outside of the hospital, due to issues with the CT scan machine.

Dr Tufton said this week that Cabinet has given approval for the procurement of a new machine.

He added that an assessment is also being done in respect of critical pieces of equipment, including an MRI Machine at KPH, and that a company has been contracted to conduct the audit.

Dr Tufton said the leasing arrangement which the Government is pursuing will address some of the issues regarding downtime of critical pieces of medical equipment in health facilities.
