The driver of the ill-fated truck which fell into a Portland ravine leading to
the deaths of the 14 persons had his bail amount reduced when he appeared in
the Buff Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning.
When 31-year-old Christopher Clarke last appeared in Court on January 6 bail was set at one million dollars, which he failed to take up.
His bail amount is now set at $300,000.
Mr. Clarke was also ordered to surrender his travel documents and to report to the Port Antonio Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Mr. Clarke was driving a market truck on December 19 last year when he failed to negotiate a corner and the truck plunged into a ravine.
Fourteen persons died as a result and several others were injured.
Mr. Clarke fled but turned himself in on December 30.
He was charged with 14 counts of manslaughter, failing to report an accident, not having insurance coverage and operating a vehicle contrary to his driver's license.
He is to return to court February 24.
