Jamaica's Ministry of Labour is urging overseas employment agencies to become compliant with regulations governing the sector or face a possible loss of benefits.
According to Sydney Bartley, Director General in the Ministry, a lack of compliance could hamper the Ministry lobbying on behalf employment agencies for incentives, tax relief or special provisions. He told RJR News that the Government has to be convinced that the agencies are serious business operators contributing to the economy.
Mr. Bartley added that the service the agencies offer is important, but this is not always known because of the sector's negative image. He said this stereotyping will not go away if operators of overseas employment agencies refuse to adhere to regulations such as the submission of quarterly reports.
He said the reports are important so that the number of overseas job placements can be recorded.
