Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey

A high level meeting was held Wednesday between representatives from Beryllium security company and members of the High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in response to the recent spate of attacks on Beryllium courier vehicles.

The latest attack occurred on Saturday in Albion, St. Thomas.

Beryllium suspended its operations over the weekend following the attack.

This led to members of the public being inconvenienced as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) had run out of cash.

A team of investigators from the Criminal Investigation Branch headquarters has been assembled to probe the attacks.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Crime, Fitz Bailey, says he is confident that those involved will be caught.

"What I can say at this time is that we are partnering with Beryllium in this investigation and we have been getting significant support, and we can make a pledge to the public that we are going to get to the bottom of this and we are going to bring those who are responsible for justice," he said.

DCP Bailey added that the police will "put the necessary strategies in place" to ensure guards attached to Beryllium can carryout their operations safely.

The senior cop has urged members of the public to assist the police with their investigation into the attacks on the security company.

"If there are information that they have available, they can call 801 or Crime Stop and pass those information to those entities to further our investigation," he suggested.

While noting the fear these attacks have driven into the public, DCP Bailey commended the team of security guards for their resilience in the attack in Albion, St. Thomas.

He said the security guards averted what could have been a major disaster.

"I know the public sometimes make ridicule of the incident, but what we saw was a...brave security guard who was shot by an high-powered weapon and the impact is what caused the firearm to have fell (sic) from his hand. And that same security guard challenged the gunmen that they themselves had to make a hasty retreat," DCP Bailey disclosed.
