The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector in Jamaica has been growing despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gloria Henry, President of the Global Services Association of Jamaica, says the sector has rebounded, surpassing targets that were set at the start of the year.
"We are over 42,000 employees now in the sector and that's great. We have new members coming in, new offices opening up in Montego Bay," she reported while speaking at the opening of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce's new office in Fairview on Tuesday.
The BPO sector had about 43,000 employees at the end of 2019, however, these numbers were impacted last year by lockdown measures between April and July, which resulted in a dramatic decline in employment levels.
But the industry has steadily rebounded since August 2020.
