Administrative bungling by immigration officers has resulted in a British national being hauled before the court for overstaying his time in Jamaica. A judge has ordered that he be repatriated.
Samuel Murrain, 52, who describes himself as a former British soldier, on Monday appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court for the offence.
Mr. Murrain told the court that he arrived in Jamaica in 2016 and was granted a six month stay.
However, his travel documents were stolen.
An immigration officer confirmed that Mr. Murrainn was making attempts to leave the country.
The immigration officer told the court that checks indicated that he applied to extend his time in Jamaica.
The judge then ordered that he be returned to his country.
