Bunting deeply saddened at murder-suicide by ex-cop

Peter Bunting, the Member of Parliament for Central Manchester, says he is deeply saddened at the multiple murders and suicide committed late Sunday night at Melrose Mews in his constituency by an ex-policeman.

Those killed are Woman Corporal Bevon Hutchinson- Anderson, 43, her 12-year old son Keinon Shaw and his father Rohan Shaw, 45.

The retired Sergeant, 58-year-old Osbourne Whitton then took his life.

RJR News understands that the policewoman, who was attached to the Mandeville Police Station, was at home with her son and his father, shortly after midnight when Mr. Whitton, who is said to have had a love affair with the Mrs. Hutchinson- Anderson, entered the house to which he had a key.

He allegedly went into a rage and pulled a firearm and shot all three persons killing them on the spot before killing himself.

"I am shocked and saddened at this tragedy, both as M.P. and as Opposition Spokesman on National Security. Nothing can justify this kind of atrocity," Mr. Bunting said in a statement Monday afternoon.

This murder-suicide involving Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is the second such incident in recent weeks, following which occurred at Three Hills, St. Mary when Corporal Wayne Llewelyn shot his wife and killed four of her family members, before he committed suicide.

"I support the call by Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington for current and former JCF personnel to seek help if needed. I also call on members of the force to report colleagues who appear to be emotionally unstable. Concerns about the stigma which may be associated with therapy pale in comparison to its benefits, and to the harm therapy may prevent. The public relies on police men and women who are not only technically skilled, but in good health," Mr. Bunting continued.

Act of a mad coward! – Porteous

Meanwhile, Sally Porteous, the Jamaica Labour Party Caretaker for Central Manchester and Councillor for the Mandeville Division, said she is deeply disturbed by this awful incident that has claimed the lives of a woman constable, a young businessman and an innocent child.

"That these lives have been ripped from their family and their friends is a horrible, horrible shock and has put them in a terrible, place. It is a sick tragedy and I hope that we do not see anymore such situations!"

"For anyone else who may be contemplating anything like this, stop it. Stop it! It will not solve your problem and no one will think the better of you for it. In fact, to opt out of a problem, by shooting your way out and then killing yourself is really the act of a mad coward! Not a nice way to be remembered!" Ms. Porteous added.
