The police have revealed that clothes store operator Suddean Hylton, the woman who was shot and killed in Darliston, Westmoreland on Thursday, had been out on bail on a murder charge.
Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers, head of the Area One Police, says Ms. Hylton was a known member of a St. James gang.
She was charged with murder and granted bail on condition that she stay out of St. James.
"We presume [her killing] is an extension of the gang conflict involving the gang that she's a member of and other gangs that they are in conflict with," said ACP Chambers.
Ms. Hylton is the aunt of reputed gang leader Dwayne Minto, also known as 'Twelle', of the 14/52 gang or 'Gym Team', which operates out of Glendevon, St. James.
Police say the 32-year-old woman, otherwise called 'Pinky', was at her store on New Roads when she was pounced upon by three men armed with handguns.
They opened fire hitting her in the upper body, including the head.
The gunmen escaped in a waiting white Toyota Axio motorcar in the direction of Bethel Town.
Ms. Hylton was found by relatives who called the police.
She was pronounced dead at hospital.
