Chairman of CARICOM, Irfaan Ali, has expressed his deep concern and continued anxiety over the passage of Hurricane Beryl that caused widespread damage and destruction in Grenada as it made its way across the Windward Islands.
Grenada is yet to fully indicate the extent of the damage caused when the eye of the category 4 storm passed.
Mr Ali, who is president of Guyana, said initial reports have indicated significant damage and destruction to infrastructure and private property in some territories.
He said the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency is already working to mobilise and coordinate assistance and disaster relief.
And CARICOM has renewed its criticism of developed countries for their failure to adhere to promises made to small island developing states to deal with the impact of climate change.
CARICOM is to receive reports from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency and the governments of countries impacted, so the collective response can be assessed and assistance given where necessary.
