The Caribbean Public Health Agency has warned that the region is not prepared for another pandemic.
Speaking at the regional consultation workshop on CARPHA's Pandemic Fund Project, interim executive director, Dr Lisa Indar, said the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the various gaps in the region's pandemic preparedness.
Dr Indar says there is a need for functional real-time early warning systems and capacity building.
She also notes that although the Caribbean is relatively small, transporting samples for testing within the region can be troublesome.
Dr Indar is recommending greater coordination among regional health bodies in the Caribbean if the region is to deal effectively with another pandemic.
