The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association has welcomed Royal Caribbean Group's agreement to acquire a 50 per cent stake in Sandals Resorts International, saying the deal could strengthen the connection between cruise and land-based tourism.
FCCA President Adam Ceserano says cruise and resort vacations are increasingly becoming part of the same travel experience, highlighting travellers who stay at resorts before or after a cruise, return to destinations they first visited by ship, or explore different Caribbean experiences on subsequent trips.
The Association says greater cooperation could create opportunities for attractions, restaurants, tour operators and other tourism businesses, particularly if visitors are encouraged to stay longer or return.
FCCA CEO Michele Paige says the Caribbean could benefit when tourism businesses work together to increase demand and create lasting economic value.
