The Child Development Agency, CDA has dispatched officers and counsellors to the Irwin Point community in St James to work with the police and medical personnel in providing care to the children who were among five females raped at their home in Irwin, St James on monday night.
Minister of Youth, Lisa Hanna under whose portfolio the CDA falls, has described the attack on the girls and the women as despicable and an alarming new low of violence and human depravity on the part of the perpetrators.
"I don't think the country can sink any lower than who took place in St James. I can tell you that as a ministry going into communities with SOSOCA, we’ve been going in with the CDA especially in areas where we see incest and child abuse o the high and going in to talk to them about what to look for and what the law says. But what we also recognize is that its hard to get a conviction of perpetrators of sexual abuse.”
Miss Hanna says the CDA is also working with the 12 year old girl in her constituency of South East St Ann who was sexually molested allegedly by her grand uncle.
She says the CDA's officers are also working with the St Ann's Bay Hospital and the girl's parents and guardians to ensure that suitable care and protection are provided for the child.
This will include a determination of the most appropriate living arrangements for her once she has been released from hospital.
