Principal of Church Teachers' College, Dr. Garth Anderson, says the institution is actively engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Education towards becoming a university college.
Dr. Anderson asserts that with the college's academic maturity, it is now ready to expand its national, regional and international reach, deepen its research and expand its programmes for even greater impact.
"We are confident in who we are, our track record of excellence, and providing thinkers and innovators for our nation is beyond question. As we travel this pathway, we need all of your support," Dr. Anderson urged while speaking at the institution's recent Diamond Gala Awards banquet.
Dr. Anderson also outlined some of the plans for the college, including construction of a state-of-the-art, multi-million dollar science centre.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education said it is encouraged by the findings of the Education Oversight Committee Year 3, Quarter 1 report for July 2025.
Dr. Nicola-Ann Brown Pinnock, Chief Technical Director in the Education Ministry, said the report reflects growth in instructional practice, with over 70% of observed lessons showing strong teacher-student engagement.
"This speaks volumes about the dedication and innovation in our teaching community, many of whom were shaped by your institution. Rest assured, the ministry remains committed to supporting Church Teachers' College and all other colleges across the island as we aim to empower educators who are both content in pedagogy and attune to the holistic needs of today's learners. As you honour outstanding individuals tonight, remember that you are also celebrating the collective legacy of a college that has helped to shape generations and will continue to do so for years to come," she stressed.
Dr. Brown Pinnock was also speaking at the Church Teachers' College's recent Diamond Gala Awards banquet.
