Closed circuit cameras to be installed in Montego Bay

Over twenty closed-circuit cameras are being installed at traffic lights in Montego Bay, St James.

The cameras are being installed at strategic locations in the downtown area, and along the Hip Strip.

Mayor of Montego Bay, Glendon Harris, says phase one of the installation process started two weeks ago.

He declined to reveal the cost.

Mayor Harris says the cameras will, among other things, help to improve traffic management in the second city.

He says the cameras will be monitored from the Parish Council and at unnamed police stations, and will allow those monitoring them to view footage from several feet away.

Mayor Harris says the installation of the cameras is also aimed at ensuring that Montego Bay returns to an orderly state.
