The Content main road in Manchester is now accessible to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as previously the rising groundwater is now receding.
The road was deemed impassable for nearly a month due to the rising waters.
Several homes were inundated and families were forced to evacuate. However, the water has been steadily receding in recent days.
But as discussions continue around the future of the area, Omar Miller, Councillor for the Craighead Division in North East Manchester, believes the water table could be used to ease the water woes of neighbouring communities that experience persistent water shortage.
"North East Manchester [has] been suffering as it relates to water and where do we harness water, and I believe that this area is an area that we could look into as it relates to the source of the water and how we can find a way to harness some of this water to support those areas.... Also, I believe that as it relates to agriculture, the water can be harnessed and used for farming. Because [of] climate change, we tend to suffer between January to sometime March-April as it relates to water," he reasoned.
