Councillor demands repairs to Linstead Police Station

Councillor Sydney Rose

Councillor for the Treadways Division in St. Catherine, Sydney Rose, is drawing attention to the Linstead Police Station which he says is in "total disrepair".

Mr. Rose, accompanied by the Custos, toured the facility to get a first hand view of the situation which was exacerbated during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

He said the roof has caved in and is leaking, and there are several areas where mould has taken over the walls.

"How on God's earth police officers can be operating and working under this condition? The station is sick and ultimately the members of the security force would have been sick as well," he lamented.

The councillor said a female officer had to be taken to hospital recently after she fainted at the station. Additionally, he claimed about 30 officers have been having respiratory issues.

Mr. Rose, who is chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committee of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, expressed disappointment with the Public Health Department, noting that he has reported the situation to them on several occasions, but nothing has been done.

He called for the officers to be relocated while immediate action is taken to repair the police station.
