Councillor Kim Brown Lawrence charged

Kim Brown Lawrence, the councillor for the Brown's Town division, in the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and possession of criminal property.
 
Brown Lawrence is one of five people who were arrested Wednesday in relation to a corruption probe involving the Education Ministry, the Caribbean Maritime University and other government entities which fell under the portfolio responsibility of former education minister Ruel Reid.
 
Her charge was confirmed by her attorney, Christopher Townsend, who told RJR News she is to appear in court on Thursday, at which point, he will apply for bail on behalf of his client. 
 
CMU President Professor Fritz Pinnock, Ruel Reid as well as his wife Sharen and daughter Sharelle are the others in custody. 
 
The probe is being conducted by the Financial Investigations Division (FID) and the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
