The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) is encouraging students to resist the temptation to engage in violent behaviour.

This call follows an incident at St. Thomas Technical High School in which a student was attacked with a metal rod by two fellow students at the school gate.

The victim received a major wound to his head and other wounds to his upper body.

CEO of the CPFSA Mrs. Laurette Adams-Thomas says it was only the quick thinking of the youngster that saved his life.

"Teens need to leave badness alone. The attack on this 15-year-old youngster was seemingly unprovoked, and if he had not quickly used his hands to block the follow-up blows to his head, he could be dead right now. This kind of violence is simply unacceptable," she bemoaned.

"Students don't seem to realise that when they commit these acts of violence, the consequences may follow them for the rest of their lives. These two boys who committed this attack have now been charged and have been remanded to a juvenile correctional facility. This act that they have committed out of idleness will now see them separated from their families and may affect how they are even viewed by society in the future," added the CPFSA chief.

Mrs. Adams-Thomas said the affected teen has been offered counselling and for further psychological support from the CPFSA's Child and Family Support Unit and has also been referred to the Ministry of Justice's Victim Services Division.
