Crocodiles turn up on Rocky Point beach

Residents at the Rocky Point Fishing Village in Clarendon are alerting the National Environment and Protection Agency (NEPA) to the frequent presence of crocodiles roaming the shorelines in the area.

According to users of the beach, they are calling on NEPA to take steps to remove the reptiles which pose a danger.

“The crocodiles are coming up right where the people are bathing, right on the shore so we are asking the relevant authorities to come and deal with them,” said a resident.

During last week's heavy rains reptiles have been turning up in several communities in the parish.

Persons who harm the reptiles can be charged.

Crocodiles are covered under the Wild Life Protection Act, making it illegal to capture or harm it.

Anyone found guilty of this offence faces a maximum fine of $100,000 or 12 months in prison.
