Members of the police and military have stepped up their operational activities in the Craig Town community following a flare-up of gang violence that has claimed the lives of several people.
The police on Thursday seized an illegal gun and arrested one of 13 men listed as persons of interest.
Ian Dacres, otherwise called 'Lucky', a resident of St. Thomas, was captured Thursday during a police/military operation in Craig Town.
He was reportedly held in possession of an illegal gun.
"We are treating him as a major player in the gang conflict, and it is believed that he is linked to several criminal activities within the St. Thomas division. So we will be collaborating our efforts with the St. Thomas division, and to determine what charges can be laid against him for those crimes within the St. Thomas division as well," said Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, who heads the Kingston Western Police Division.
Four other persons of interest have surrendered to the Kingston Western Police since Monday.
SSP Phipps said the 48-hour curfew imposed in sections of the Craig Town, Jones Town and Admiral Town communities earlier this week has been extended as the police seek to quell the violence.
Members of the 110 and Gaza gangs have been locked in a bloody war over turf.
There are growing fears of reprisal attacks following Sunday's fatal shooting of 61-year-old Vincent Lyons, otherwise called 'McCalla', a bar operator of Madden Street.
Investigators say he was the father of the reputed leader of the 110 Gang, and that his son has vowed revenge.
