Local importers jostled for a second straight day for foreign currency to pay for existing imports as well as to stock up for the Christmas season.
The importers wanted US$110 million on Friday to pay their bills, but the Bank of Jamaica supplied only US$40 million leading to unsatisfied demand of US$70 million.
This follows Thursday's demand of US$88 million when the bank supplied only US$30 million, leading to excess demand of US$58 million.
National Commercial Bank, Alliance Financial Services Limited, JMMB Securities Limited and JMMB Bank, purchased almost US$30 million of the US$40 million the BOJ pumped into the market.
