Curfew imposed in Gregory Park

A 48-hour curfew was imposed Tuesday evening in Gregory Park, Portmore, St. Catherine amid rising tensions in the community after rival gangs engaged each other in shootouts and firebombed houses.

The curfew covers sections of Dyke Road and Municipal Boulevard.

Some sections of Gregory Park have been on edge following the gang attack which took place for six hours Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Three houses were set on fire.

A resident told Radio Jamaica News that residents are fearful and have appealed for the sustained presence of the security forces.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, Commanding Officer for the St Catherine South police division, said residents of Portmore Villa have been under siege from criminals for the last three weeks.

SSP Phillips told our correspondent that the security forces are in pursuit of persons of interest.
