The Kingston Western Police are keeping a close watch on sections of the Craig Town community following a deadly attack on Sunday night which claimed the life of a 61-year-old man.
Vincent Lyons, otherwise called "McCalla", a bar operator of Madden Street, was fatally shot about 8 p.m. at the intersection of Baker Street and Madden Street.
More than 14 spent shells were found at the scene.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police, said the police are bracing for reprisals as Mr. Lyons was the father of the reputed leader of the 110 gang, based in the community.
He said there has been a surge in murders and shootings during a bloody turf war between members of the 110 gang and Gaza gang, operating in the Admiral Town police area.
"Well, our immediate startegy is really aimed at going after the violence influencers within the community, with a special focus to target the persons, especially those who are imported into the area to use violence against residents. Of course, our efforts will be supported by the JDF (Jamaica Defence Force) and Specialised Operations Division. And we want to urge the law abiding citizens to support the efforts of the security force operatives within the space," he appealed.
SSP Phipps said the leaders of the two gangs have been recruiting men from Spanish Town, Waltham Park Road, Denham Town, Allman Town and Hannah Town.
A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in sections of the Craig Town, Jones Town and Admiral Town communities.
The curfew in the Craig Town area will start at the intersection of Beresford and Benbow Streets.
It will continue along an imaginary line to Slipe Pen Road onto Gordon Road; from Gordon Road along an imaginary line to Pouyatt Street and Brynes Street to Penn Street.
The other boundaries are: North along Greenwich Park Road from the Western end of the Calvary Cemetery onto Lyndhurst Road to Studio One Boulevard; East along Slipe Pen Road from Studio One Boulevard to Asquith Street.
The curfew expires on Wednesday.
