Dancehall artiste Jamal was taken into police custody on Friday for questioning in relation to gang activities.
The artiste, whose given name is Tyvel Dixon, was arrested by officers from Specialised Operations after he performed at Mecca nightclub on Constant Spring Road, St. Andrew.
Eleven other men of Corporate Area and St. James addresses were also detained.
Jamal, also known as '1Dunceman', is one of the entertainers who popularised the use of the term 'dunce' in popular music.
According to the police, Mr. Dixon is the leader of the Dunce gang in Barrett Town, St. James and is a person of interest in three murders but is not considered a suspect at this time.
He will be questioned by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch and Specialised Operations regarding his alleged involvement in a criminal organisation.
The police say two phones found in Mr. Dixon's possession were confiscated.
He is expected to remain in custody while investigations continue.
The police say at least four of the men picked up Friday morning are suspected to be members of the Dunce gang.
