The Department of Corrections will miss the end of July deadline for all children to be removed from lock-ups.
The Department of Corrections says it is working feverishly to have all juveniles out of lockups by the week of August 8.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding had stated that holding all 101 children currently held in police lockups is in conflict with the Child Care and Protection Act and international conventions.
Mr. Golding had also said that the practice of holding children in conflict with the law in such facilities would be phased out.
He further stated that Commissioner of Corrections Colonel Patrick Prendergast had assured him that by the end of July, every child who is currently held in a lock-up would be out, and placed in a facility to be properly cared for.
