Dominica, other eastern Caribbean islands brace for impact of TS Dorian

Dominica has taken precautionary action and sent its public sector workers home as the island prepares for the passage of Tropical Storm Dorian later today.
 
In a broadcast, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said while the government does not believe there is any major threat to the country, the safety of citizens is always paramount.
 
A hurricane watch is in effect for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, while a tropical storm warning remains in effect for Martinique, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
 
A tropical storm watch is in effect for Dominica, Saba and St. Eustatius.
 
Meanwhile, the St. Lucian government has lifted the measures it imposed in shutting down the country as Tropical Storm Dorian drenched the island, but caused no major damage or injury in its trek towards the Eastern Caribbean Sea.
 
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet said the public service had resumed normal operations from midday.
 
He said residents in flood prone and landslide areas should exercise caution.
