Dottie Dean gone

Veteran broadcaster and former programmes director at RJR, Dorothy LaCroix, more popularly known as "Dottie Dean", is dead.

She passed away Saturday after a brief illness.

Born in St Mary, Mrs. Lacroix started her career in radio in Belize and then joined the staff at Radio Jamaica in the 1960s.

During her tenure, she supervised the music library, was a programmes supervisor and also a radio supervisor.

Between 1983 and 1989, she took charge of programming at the station, a post she held until she retired.

In 1985 she was awarded the Order of Distinction - becoming one of the first fifteen women to receive that honour.

She retired from the Board of Directors of the RJR Communications group last year.

J. Lester Spaulding, Chairman and Managing Director of the RJR Communication Group, said Mrs. LaCroix helped build RJR 94 FM.

"Her contribution to the media fraternity on a whole is well known and she will be remembered by us as someone who helped to build the station to what it was, what it is and will always be remembered as the consummate broadcaster to many people in Jamaica," he said.

Dorothy Lacroix is survived by a son and daughter.
