In a swift response to the damning letter written by Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Kathy Ann Pyke, DPP Paula Llewellyn says the Office of the Services Commission will be invited to conduct a full investigation into what she terms the unprofessional conduct of Ms Pyke.
Ms Llewellyn indicated that Ms Pyke has been "bitterly resentful, extremely upset and expressed feelings of hurt" because she was not asked to head a unit at the DPP's office, despite working as a senior deputy director.
In a six-page letter, Ms Llewellyn detailed how Ms Pyke has been the subject of complaints by staff at the Office of the DPP, members of the bench and defence counsel due to her conduct.
She also accused the senior deputy DPP of bullying, noting that only she and other senior deputies have been successful in not being targets of Ms Pyke's intimidation.
In addition, Ms Llewellyn outlined how Ms Pyke attempted to get other crown counsel to add their signature to the letter she sent to the Prime Minister calling for a postponement of the process to extend the DPP's tenure. These attempts seemingly failed, as Ms Pyke's letter contained only her signature.
The DPP also noted that Ms Pyke had no authority to use the office's letterhead, describing the act as a clear breach of protocol, shocking insubordination and abuse of office.
