The driver involved in a deadly accident on the flat
bridge which claimed the lives of 12 persons in 1996, is expected back in court
Monday.
Norman Beckford, 45, who fled Jamaica shortly after the accident, was charged in March after he surrendered to the local police.
He was later released on bail after his attorney told the court that he is prepared to cooperate with the investigations.
Mr. Beckford, a resident of Flower Hill in St. Ann, was the driver of a mini bus which plunged into the Rio Cobre along the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine on June 28, 1996.
Twelve of his passengers perished in the horrific accident which shocked the country.
Mr. Beckford ran from the scene and later fled to England.
After hiding in the UK for 12 years, Mr. Beckford contacted the local police, who arranged for his return in March.
He was subsequently charged with 12 counts of manslaughter.
