The Ministry of Education is to conduct a review of the promotion policy of all schools to ensure they are in accordance with the various laws and policies.
Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid made the disclosure after it was revealed that another Corporate Area high school is preventing students from advancing to fifth form because they have not met certain requirements.
RJR News obtained a copy of a letter from Merl Grove High School which states that a student was not recommended for five subjects and had forfeited her right to be promoted to grade 11.
The letter added that the parent has two options - voluntarily withdraw her daughter from the school and transfer her to another institution or have her repeat fourth form on probationary terms and mandatory enrolment in the School's Extended Day Programme.
The programme will cost $5,500 for each subject per term and will be administered after school hours.
Senator Reid has said this is not approved by the Ministry of Education.
He has asked the Regional Director to investigate and provide a report.
Calabar High School came under fire after informing parents that in order for students to be promoted to grade 11, each boy must achieve no less than 60 per cent for his overall average, along with good conduct.
The Education Ministry has since made a declaration which should reverse the decision by the administration of Calabar.
Senator Reid has stated that based on the flawed procedure adopted, as well as a pending review of the decision, the boys who were barred can attend school in the new term.
