Education Transformation team talks to parents in Manchester

Officials of the Education Transformation Programme will on Thursday journey to Manchester in the first of a series of meetings by the Education Ministry to increase stakeholder involvement in the process.

The Education Transformation Team is scheduled to meet with residents of Mandeville and other communities in the parish at the Cecil Charlton Hall.

The team will be making presentations on issues such as literacy, numeracy, school leadership and behaviour.

Residents will also be provided with an update on the Ministry's school building and rehabilitation programme.

Following the publication of the Task Force Report on Educational Reform, the government allocated $5 billion from the National Housing Trust to the Education Transformation programme.

More than 80% of the money was earmarked for the building and refurbishing of schools.

In the 2008-2009 Estimates of Expenditure just over $2.6 billion has been allocated to the Education Transformation programme, however, other avenues of funding are being sought.

These include the proposed establishment of a National Education Trust which will finance the construction of additional schools.

Over the past month the Education Transformation Team met with teachers and principals representing schools across Jamaica.
