With just three days left until electors in North East St. Ann head to the polls, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says it is making final preparations to ensure a seamless day of activities.
The EOJ says polling stations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. for the by-election, scheduled for Monday September 30.
The preliminary counting of ballots will immediately follow the close of poll at each station.
David Anderson, an independent candidate, former Senator Matthew Samuda of the Jamaica Labour Party, and Chase Neil of the United Independents Congress will contest the election.
The main opposition People's National Party did not select a candidate to contest the poll.
The election comes after JLP Member of Parliament Marsha Smith vacated the seat on September 3.
Meanwhile, the EOJ said training has been completed for Election Day workers who will be deployed to 146 polling stations across 27 voting locations across the constituency.
As of May 31, there are 43,827 registered voters in North East St. Ann.
The EOJ also sought to remind electors and employers that voters are entitled to three hours' time-off from work to mark their ballots.
It said this is in addition to the usual lunch hour.
The law, however, does not apply to people who begin work at 10:00 a.m. or later, or end work at or before 2:00 p.m.
Voters are being reminded to take their Voter ID card to the polling station and that the use or display of cell phones, cameras or other recording devices is not allowed inside polling stations.
The election will be monitored by the Election Centre, a hub for receiving and validating reports on incidents on the ground and providing resolutions, as well as issuing reports to the media where necessary.
The Constituted Authority, which comes into effect whenever an election notice is issued and has the ability to halt or void elections where necessary, will oversee the election.
