FID's Chief Technical Director Dennis Chung
In response to the growing incidence of financial fraud, the Financial Investigations Division (FID) has intensified its efforts to educate the public through radio series.
Chief Technical Director Dennis Chung said public education is a frontline tool in Jamaica's fight against financial crimes.
Mr. Chung said the division is packaging practical guidance for citizens, businesses and the regulated sector on how financial crimes work, the red flags to watch for and how to report suspicious activity.
"When people understand the law, common schemes and the warning signs, they are far less likely to be victimised and far less likely to be drawn into offending behaviour such as fraud, money laundering and money-mule activity. Under this thrust, we aim to turn complex topics into clear, actionable guidance for every Jamaican. The radio series and podcasts will demystify issues such as scams, cyber-enabled fraud and asset recovery, thereby equipping Jamaicans to protect themselves and their businesses," he disclosed.
Mr. Chung said the entity began its radio series, FID in Action, the audiovisual podcast Follow the Money and a sustained Money Mule Awareness Campaign on Monday.
The public is being urged to report suspected financial crimes to contact@fid.gov.jm or 876-928-5141.
