Frustrated motorists set fire to tyres along a section of Upper Waltham Park Road in St. Andrew on Friday morning to bring attention to a large pothole they say has been neglected by the authorities.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that a taxi operator was the latest victim of the pothole this morning.

His colleagues subsequently threw tyres across the length of road at East Avenue and set them on fire.

Other motorists had to seek alternative routes.

The roadblock was unmanned.

Dr. Angela Brown Burke, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South Western, says it is unfortunate that there has to be a protest for roads to be fixed.

"I would certainly understand the anger and the frustration of persons who use that thoroughfare, both in terms of motorists as well as pedestrians, because the truth is that it is in bad condition," she admitted.

She said the road, which is the responsibility of the National Works Agency, has been identified as needing repairs under the SPARK programme.
