Finace Minister and Dr. Peter Phillips praised for tone of most recent political debate

One political analyst has praised the Finance Minister Audley Shaw, and his opposition counterpart Dr Peter Phillips, for the subdued tone of their political debate on Thursday evening.
This is in response to the many public comments that the debate was dull and lacked fireworks.
However, some people feel this type of debate does not need excitement, as this can be experienced on the political platform.Vice President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, (JCTU), Helene Davis Whyte, thinks the tone was appropriate.

“The tone was quite subdued but I think it is the correct tone, but I think it allows us to focus on issues and to listen to answers rather to get what we hear on the campaign trail… but I know a number of members of the public they want to get something that excites them”

She's advising that the next debate scheduled for next week may also adopt this tone, so the public should prepare.

“I don’t think this kind of debate is going to be that exciting, what we don’t want is for it to degenerate into personal attacks and so on’”she said.

The JCTU Vice President was speaking on the discussion programme - Beyond the Headlines.
