The Jamaica Fire Brigade says it has seen a worrying trend regarding bush fires since the start of the year.
For the first six months of 2021 there were 2,901 bush fires which the brigade says is a sign that the annual increase will continue.
It is encouraging persons to practice alternatives to burning when clearing land and disposing of the brush generated.
Public Relations Officer for the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Emeleo Ebanks, says the island has seen an increase in bush fires annually since 2016, with 6,127 incidents recorded in 2020.
Mr. Ebanks noted that during prolonged dry periods the number of bush fires tends to increase.
