The five men charged in connection with the largest cocaine bust on record in Jamaica were all remanded when they made their first appearance in the St. Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
The presiding judge ordered that all the men be medically examined.
The defendants, 72-year-old George Sterling; 57-year-old Junior Haldane; 57-year-old Clive Davis; 58-year-old Collin Ricketts, and 42-year-old Clayton Peart are charged with possession of, dealing in, trafficking and conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
They were arrested on August 6 after the narcotics police raided a house in Havendale, St. Andrew, and seized more than 5,000 pounds of cocaine.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of US$76 million or nearly J$12 billion.
When the matter was called up, the attorney for Mr. Ricketts, Donahue Martin, told the court that his client needed medical attention.
Mr. Sterling's attorney Ludlow Black had a similar request.
Prior to remanding the men, Senior Parish Court Judge Maxine Ellis ordered that all the accused are to receive medical attention despite Mr. Peart indicating that he did not need to see a doctor.
He is represented by Kayon Atkinson and Tamika Dunbar, while Mr. Davis is represented by Tom Tavares-Finson.
Mr. Haldane is represented by Lloyd McFarlene.
The accused men are to reappear in court on October 9.
