Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for large sections of Jamaica

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Thomas, Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, and St. James.

The Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 5:00 p.m., Wednesday.

Recently formed Tropical Storm Helene is now moving west-northwestward towards the Gulf of Mexico, and its outer bands are expected to continue producing unstable weather across Jamaica today.

A general northward motion is expected to begin today and continue through Friday.

The Met Service says data indicate that moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of southern and northwestern parishes since yesterday.

The current forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms to continue affecting mainly southern and northwestern parishes through to this evening.

Fishers and other marine interests should continue to exercise caution as sea conditions will deteriorate due to thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.
