FLOW faces competition from local cable provider

Cable television provider FLOW is now facing increased competition in the local subscriber television market.

Telstar Limited has been given the go ahead from the Government to add eleven zones in Kingston and St. Andrew.

Information Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange announced on Wednesday that she had accepted a recommendation from the Broadcasting Commission for the company's licence to be varied so that it could add to its service area.

Telstar will now serve the Corporate Area communities of Mona, Hope Pastures, Washington Boulevard, Patrick City, Beverly Hills, Swallowfield, Cross Roads, Vineyard Town, Riverton City, New Haven and Duhaney Park.

The zones were previously served by Entertainment Systems Limited, Sauce Communications and Allied Cable Vision Limited before they were acquired by FLOW.

Telstar, which was among the initial group of cable operators to be licensed in 1998, is now the second largest cable provider in Jamaica.
