There is more uncertainty surrounding the future of problem plagued Fly Jamaica Airways with RJR News receiving confirmation that the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has suspended its air operating certificate.
In an interview with our news centre yesterday, Director General of the JCAA, Nari Williams Singh, said action was taken as Fly Jamaica has not been operating for sometime - he also said that airline closed operations in March.
Singh explained that regulations stipulate that if an airline does not operate for a certain period of time its air operating certificate can be suspended.
The JCAA Director General told RJR News that in the event that Fly Jamaica wants to restart operations it will have to go through a process to be issued a new certficate to provide air services.
News of the suspension of the air operating certifcate comes two weeks after it emerged that Fly Jamaica will soon be suspended from all operations in Guyana.
In an interview with the Guyana Times, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Lieutenant Colonel Egbert Field, stated that the airline is yet to supply the agency with information on what it intends to do with its operations.
On November 9, 2018, one of Fly Jamaica's aircraft crash-landed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana.
Since then, the airline has not been able to resume operations and in March announced that it made the positions of its workers redundant.
Fly Jamaica said it was hoping to secure funding but the process has been slow.
