Former FIFA VP Jack Warner expected to take up bail today after spending a night in jail

After spending the night behind bars on corruption allegations, leader of the Independent Liberal Party in Trinidad and Tobago and former FIFA Vice President, Austin Jack Warner, is expected to take up his $2.5m bail bond today.

The embattled former CONCACAF President was brought before the Chief Magistrate in Trinidad yesterday afternoon after he surrendered to police. Mr Warner has been indicted in the US on allegations that he took US$10 million in bribes from the South African Government for the 2010 World Cup.

Speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines last evening, Trinidadian journalist, Jabari Fraser, said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is being criticised by the Opposition for her decision to appoint him to the position of National Security Minister in her Cabinet.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad & Tobago told that country's Parliament yesterday that the U.S. Government had submitted an extradition request for Mr Warner.  

Mr Warner is facing more than 20 years behind bars, if convicted. His two sons have pleaded guilty to corruption charges in the US and are facing years behind bars.
