"Government did not sidetrack OUR's advice on ESET" - Information Minister

Information Minister Sandrea Falconer has responded to the opposition Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) criticism that the government continues to ignore established channels on procurement such as the Office of  the Contractor General, (OCG).

The JLP made the comment during a press conference on Monday as it addressed the establishment of  the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team ( ESET).

The Party also declared that it will not support the Team.

At a Jamaica House media briefing on Wednesday, the Information Minister denied that the government

sidetracked the advice of  the Office of  Utilities Regulation (OUR).

“The Government has the right based on our own legal advise to disagree with opinions from the OCG and I think in this case, the legal advise that as received by the Cabinet was not in accordance with the OCG. The Government did not sidetrack the advice of the OUR in terms of ESET, the Cabinet has the right to set up bodies to represent the Cabinet or to represent a ministry.”

The Information Minister said the process will continue with ESET.
