Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says the government will not allow the nation to be held captive by criminal elements.
Dr. Holness insists that criminals must not be given free rein to terrorise law abiding citizens.
"We are at an inflection point in our society. Things are changing. We have changed the risk-reward function for crime. Before, criminals felt that there was no risk being involved in crime. Today, every criminal know that you're taking a big risk to be involved in crime. And that risk of being involved in crime is going to become greater and greater and greater. Every day you see it on your TV, on your radio, all of them who a plot, are bringing gonea bring in gun, a programme man, a programme man from jail, we going put a stop to it. We going put a stop to it. We going to find you and we going to deal with you as you deserve to be dealt with," he warned.
Dr. Holness was speaking on Tuesday at the contract signing and ground breaking of Serenity Grove on Walker's Avenue in Gregory Park, St. Catherine under the New Social Housing Programme.
Two people died and more than 40 others were left homeless after 11 houses were firebombed inside a tenement yard on Walker's Avenue on August 12, 2023.
