Grants Pen, St. Thomas affected by drainage issues on south coast highway

Delroy Hendricks, a resident of Grants Pen in St. Thomas

Residents of Grants Pen in St. Thomas are calling for urgent attention to sections of the newly built Southern Coastal Highway.

The residents say the drainage system for the highway is incomplete, resulting in excessive water runoff through the community.

A resident, Delroy Hendricks, told Radio Jamaica News that the unfinished work is causing distress among residents.

"We don't have a drainage system to take the water through the community and out of the community. And that is one of our biggest issue right now because as you know, Grants Pen is actually a water-logged community because we are situated on a swamp area... so we haffi set proper facilities so the water can be taken away," he urged.

Mr. Hendricks said the residents want answers as to when the work will be completed.
