Gregory Issacs Thanksgiving Service - November 20


A Thanksgiving Service for late reggae star, Gregory Isaacs, will be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday November 20 starting at 10 a.m.

The body of the "Cool Ruler" , who died in England on October 25, will be flown to Jamaica on November 11.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has announced that it  is assisting the Isaacs family with the arrangements for the Thanksgiving Service which is being planned by a committee comprising family members, music industry personnel and officials of the Ministry.    The committee is chaired by Culture Minister, Olivia “Babsy” Grange.

  The theme for the Service is "Red Rose for Gregory" and those attending are being asked to take along a red rose and  wear black or white or a combination.

It has been revealed that  just before the service there  a tribute-concert will be held, the highlight of which will be Dean Fraser and an All-Star Band of veteran musicians with an array of popular artistes.

 During the first hour of the Service there will be another musical tribute featuring Reggae artistes such as Lloyd Parkes and We the People Band, Ken Boothe, Freddie McGregor, Mavado, the Tamlins and Bongo Herman.       

Following the service,  Gregory will be interred at the Dovecot Cemetery in St Catherine.
The reggae artiste who was 59,  lost his battle with lungs cancer, a year after being diagnosed.

The star, whose 1982 album Night Nurse, recorded at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong studio, reached number 32 in the United Kingdom.
He was best known for his silky smooth vocal, ultimately coining the title "The Cool Ruler".

A funeral service is to be held in North London on November 10 before his body is flown  to Jamaica  for burial.
